the Giddings in texas

James and Lucy raised a family of 12 children. The eldest son, Andrew, remained on the farm in Pennsylvania while his brothers, with one exception, left for Texas. The first to leave was Giles, who became a surveyor for James Austin. He died as a result of wounds suffered at the Battle of San Jacinto in the Texas Rebellion. His brothers, taking advantage of Giles' veteran benefits, became founders of the Texas Republic.
